PAYMENT AND INSURANCE
A&C offers services at a range of rates and accepts various payment options. Some of our clinicians are in-network with multiple insurance plans, including Aetna, Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and Optum.
Do you accept insurance?
Many of our therapists are in-network with Aetna and Cigna and our team of Anthem and Optum providers is growing. You can find therapists in your network using the search tool on our Find a Therapist page.
For therapists that are not in your network, we are happy to work with your insurance company to access your out-of-network benefits if available. Many clients have 50-100% of the costs of their sessions covered by their insurers after they have met their out of network deductibles. The easiest way to find out what your insurance will cover is to contact your insurance company to determine your coverage and benefits.
In the event that your insurance does not cover your care, A&C may be able to provide you with a discounted cash rate and other options to lower your costs.
What are your rates?
Clinician rates vary based upon experience, level of education, and specialties. If your clinician is in-network with your specific insurance, you will pay their contracted rates.
If your clinician is out-of-network, we are happy to work with your insurance company to access your out-of-network benefits if available. Many clients have 50-100% of the costs of their sessions covered by their insurers after they have met their out of network deductibles. The easiest way to find out what your insurance will cover is to contact your insurance company to determine your coverage and benefits.
Generally, rates fall within these ranges:
Licensed Clinician: $150 – $300
Resident or Supervisee: $100 – $175
Student or Intern: $20 – $100
Psychiatric Intake: $300 – $500
30-minute med check: $150 – $175
Interns
Interns are graduate students in the field of Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology. Their internship with Active & Connected Family Therapy is part of their graduate school training and they work closely with an A&C Clinical Supervisor, our most senior level clinician. We are selective in hiring interns, ensuring that they have both the experience and maturity to offer high-quality care. Most insurance companies will not reimburse for therapeutic services provided by an intern.
Sessions are billed on a sliding scale starting at $10 a session.
Psychiatry
Abbey McLean, MD, will be in-network in Aetna, Anthem, and Optum and will begin taking patients June 1, 2024.
Robert Johnston, MD, Emily Young, DO, and Justin Smith, DO are out-of-network providers.
Out-of-network rates are as follows:
Psychiatric Intake: $300 – $500
30-minute med check: $150 – $175
For specific payment information regarding psychiatry, please contact 434-202-4080, ext. 102.
Out-of-Network Benefits and Superbills
Please contact your insurance company to verify how your plan compensates you for mental health services. If your insurance provides out-of-network reimbursement, you will pay for your sessions up front and then submit a special receipt, called a Superbill, to your insurance for reimbursement. A&C automatically provides Superbills as a courtesy on the 10th of every month for sessions the prior month; contact our billing specialist at ac@activeconnected.com should you need assistance.
Accepted Payment Methods
We accept most major credit cards as forms of payment. We also accept most HSA and FSA plans. Under extenuating circumstances, we are able to accept payment via cash or check; please contact your therapist directly or email ac@activeconnected.com for approval to use one of these alternative payment methods.
Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise, you will be charged for the full rate of the session. A no show for initial intakes will result in a charge of $50 for a resident or licensed clinician and $25 for an intern. No shows for established clients will result in being charged the full rate of the session. Some clinicians offer 1-2 “freebies”; speak with your therapist for more information.
Right to a Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
