I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 22 years of experience helping adolescents, adults, couples (including pre-marital) and families. I specialize in working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, substance abuse and addiction, anger management, parenting, stress management and academic problems. If you feel stuck, confused, frustrated, or even scared of therapy, you are not alone and I’ve worked with many others in your shoes.
I strive to create a safe, trusting, and warm relationship with my clients while helping them develop new skills to support their growth and success. My style incorporates a fun and active session, compassionate listening, and a ready sense of humor. This approach allows me to find and accentuate client strengths while also helping develop effective coping strategies. At the end of our work, I want my clients to build their own toolkit of strategies and behaviors to support healthy living. I believe that with the right combination of motivation and support, any life change is possible.
I am the former Clinical Director of a therapeutic wilderness boarding school for adolescents. I have been honored to present and speak at numerous conferences, including the Virginia Counseling Association, Virginia Association for Independent Schools and Programs, and as the Keynote Speaker at the Virginia Juvenile Justice Association’s annual conference to share insights and offer guidance. As a therapist I incorporate techniques based on family systems theory, existential therapy, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, motivational interviewing, and affect theory-based emotional regulation techniques.
My other loves include trail running, paddle boarding, spending time outside with my wife and our daughters, and listening to my vinyl record collection. On Sundays in the Fall, you can usually catch me in the Living Room watching the NFL.
