Dylan Abrams, PhD
Bio

I am a licensed clinical psychologist at Active & Connected, helping adults, adolescents, families, and athletes. In my practice, I support people dealing with anxiety, stress, OCD, anger management, self-esteem, depression, and adjustment issues that arise during life transitions. I am privileged to be a part of my clients' journeys as they navigate some of the most personal and meaningful aspects of their lives.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), though I also incorporate elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). I also have extensive training in Exposure and Response Prevention, the gold-standard treatment for OCD. I tailor my approach to each individual client because people are complex, and there is no one-size-fits-all model! I center my practice around clients’ strengths, goals, values, and life experiences.

I am also passionate about psychological assessment. I have extensive experience conducting psychodiagnostic and forensic evaluations. I have also conducted neuropsychological testing, including post-concussion assessments for NHL players. Providing my clients with a comprehensive understanding of their psychological functioning is a meaningful part of my work.

Before moving to Virginia, I completed my BA at the University of Southern California (Fight On!), my MA and PhD at the City University of New York Graduate Center, and my predoctoral Internship at the University of North Carolina. In my free time, I enjoy watching Boston sports, exploring the beauty of central Virginia, and staying active. I believe in taking care of both mind and body, which is one of the reasons I love being part of the Active & Connected team!
