Bio

Hello! I am a Resident in Counseling in Virginia under the supervision of Matt Browning, LPC. As a Counseling Intern at UVA’s Women’s Center, I specialized in working with undergraduate and graduate student clients. I also have a special interest in helping people navigate the emotional aspects of divorce.

After working with a wide-range of mental health issues, I’ve seen that a common theme is the need for coping skills to help manage the stress (both physical and mental) of overwhelming life situations. The therapeutic tools that I employ to help students can also help those experiencing stress related to their careers, parenting and caregiving, their relationships, and their health and finances.

My primary goal as a therapist is to help my clients feel safe, seen, and heard by treating them with unconditional positive regard. My clients and I have found success with many different counseling theories and interventions but, depending on the presenting concern, my therapeutic approach often incorporates some form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness. Together, I work with clients to help bring to light the cognitions that they may not realize are influencing their well-being, emotions, choices, actions, and relationships. I also seek to build on and amplify each client’s strengths-–maybe even those that they haven’t yet recognized.

I have a B.A. from the University of Virginia, an M.S. in Library and Information Science from Simmons University in Boston, and an M.Ed. in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling from William & Mary. I have also passed the National Board for Certified Counselors exam.

Although my own child is grown and flown and working in London, I feel fortunate to have family members living in Charlottesville–ranging in age from 1 to 80 years old. I love a good yoga class and am trying to become a decent tennis and/or pickleball player. I’m also excited about doing walk and talk sessions when clients request them!
