Hello, I am Marlene Paxton, and I work with teens, young adults, adults, parents, and couples who are navigating life’s challenges and transitions. I have a particular passion for supporting those who serve others whether as first responders, veterans, medical professionals, or caregivers of family members with medical and mental health conditions.
My therapeutic style is empathetic, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs and goals. I integrate Person-Centered Therapy with elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Solution-Focused Therapy while maintaining a trauma-informed lens. Together we’ll create space for you to explore your story, build resilience, and move toward the growth and healing that matters most to you.
I am currently completing my graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at William & Mary and see clients as an intern under the supervision of Micaela Bates, Psy. D. Prior to pursuing counseling, I served in the U.S. Air Force, an experience that deepened my understanding of both the resilience and the stress that can come with service and transitions.
I provide in-person therapy at the Charlottesville North (Rio) office and also offer walk-and-talk sessions for clients who feel more comfortable processing while moving outdoors.
When not in session, you can usually find me gardening, reading, or spending time with my family in Virginia and Connecticut. I grew up in Connecticut (where my extended family remains) and after several moves for my and my husband’s military service, my family has made Charlottesville our home.
