Hi! I'm Trent Holden, and I'm dedicated to supporting children and adolescents. To assist young people with the challenges they face, I focus on listening to, empowering, and advocating for them. My engagement with children and adolescents is inspired and informed by nearly a decade spent learning about their developmental arc and needs as well as nearly two decades teaching, coaching, and advising them.
I am currently working on a Master of Science degree in Social Work (MSW) from Columbia University with an anticipated graduation in spring of 2025. I am also a “Double Hoo”. I possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Master of Education degree in Higher Education from the University of Virginia (UVA).
As a student at UVA, I worked as an intern with the UVA Football program where I had the opportunity to interact with high school athletes and help guide them through the recruiting process. Following my 2017 graduation from UVA, I chose to remain in Virginia and with the sport of football and took a job in Washington, DC at the NFL Players Association. I also coached lacrosse at a local independent school, Georgetown Visitation.
But my roots in Charlottesville were so strong that I chose to return. After a year working at UVA Orthopedics as a scribe, I sought an opportunity to teach and connect with students in the classroom as an 8th grade science teacher and advisor. In addition to my classroom teaching experience, I have also coached 32 seasons of volleyball, basketball, and lacrosse to children ages 5-19 years of age. Every conversation and interaction reinforced my passion for helping young people tackle the challenges of adolescence.
For my MSW practicum last year, I worked as a social work Intern on the Pediatric Gastroenterology team at UVA. I specialized in helping patients diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and colitis navigate their condition and support their families. This experience, along with my career as a teacher, advisor, and coach, helped shape my particular interest in working with children, teens, and college students struggling with anxiety and depression.
Alongside my passion for social work, I continue to coach varsity volleyball and travel lacrosse, empowering athletes to excel on and off the field. Outside of my current studies and coaching, I enjoy baking treats for friends and family and spending quality time with my two Labradors, Alfie and Albert.
